Case Study: Three Varian TrueBeam Commissionings for New Treatment Planning System

In preparation for a transition to a new treatment planning system (TPS), Apex Physics completed commissioning for three Varian TrueBeam linear accelerators in Minnesota. The process included detailed measurements of photon and electron beam characteristics—percent depth dose (PDD), beam profiles, beam flatness and symmetry, output factors, and multi-leaf collimator (MLC) performance.

The measured data was then used to model the Eclipse TPS, ensuring the system accurately calculated and distributed radiation doses as prescribed. End-to-end testing was performed using phantoms and patient-specific quality assurance procedures to validate the entire treatment chain from planning through delivery.

These steps ensured that all three machines met required standards and were fully integrated into the new TPS for safe and accurate clinical use.
